How Is Hypnotherapy Useful For Me?

Hypnosis has been used for thousands of years to deliberately gain access to the unconscious mind.  Discovered by the Greeks and named after their god of sleep, HYPNO, it was practiced by Aristotle and Socrates, saying the unexamined life is unworthy of living.  A totally natural phenomena, hypnosis occurs twice a day at waking and at sleeping, slipping from the conscious brain wave length of Beta to that of Alpha, a slower wavelength just prior to Theta, which is a sleeping wavelength.  In Alpha there’s access. 

Knowing that 90% of all thoughts are from the unconscious mind, it becomes easy to see that the daylight, conscious mind of only 10% has little total affect on our total thought process.  The unconscious mind is the seat of the emotions, the total memory capacity, regulator of all involuntary activity, seat of the imagination and creativity, center of all habituated conduct, and the dynamo that drives all the energy requirements of the body, and the computer which integrates this mammoth collection of thoughts.  Is it little wonder that we have some IN-thoughts come with little understanding consciously or that some thoughts might ultimately be less than important, maybe even unwanted.  Homo Sapiens is described as the upright animal which tell stories.  And this is the story: he has learned to THINK THE THOUGHT and even think ABOUT the thought, select it, use it, change it, cancel it.  Ultimately the thought rules; so, is it the right one?  “ there is no good or bad but for the thought that makes it so.” – Shakespeare.  If you spend all your life climbing the ladder only to discover it is against the wrong wall, where is the thought that thunk?

Thoughts drive everything.  Thoughts and emotions drive behavior.  When this is used as a formula or a principle for understanding behavior and habituated conduct, the question arises as to well, if you don’t like it, is it changeable, can it be erased, modified, deleted.  Yes, but the issue becomes one of which is in control, the conscious or the unconscious, which is trying to take or maintain control, and how  do you get in there to strike a bargain or align the subconscious center of habituation with the current demands of the conscious.  With the example of weight loss or smoking, the conscious has little impact on the subconscious to change.  Well, yes, will power, but not  if the subconscious goes unconvinced of the need to change.  And how will the subconscious cooperate, fully, completely, partially, disappointingly, or total agreement and lasting change?  Thoughts remain until replaced by another…….old thought is the most resistant to change.

If a man has learned to be abusive of women, how did this get in there and stick? Thoughts are learning and conditioning whether they are good or bad. The subconscious accepts what is most important, if not prevalent and persistent of the time, and has no way of judging value. These thoughts get set in the subconscious with an intense emotional event, authority, a structure of authority like the church or the government and also repetition and hypnosis. This idea of abusing women is set by example, not an original thought, by authority, by gender identification, repetition of example behavior; this could even be hypnotic where the fear becomes the primary component.

Thoughts are the rulers of our minds.  Thoughts, according to Dr. Edgar Barnett, cause us to think about the thoughts that drive our behavior in terms of crimes of the mind, prisons of the mind, and the key, which slams the door on the prison, is guilt.  Taking this to the transactional analysis, thoughts of the Child ego state are in conflict with thoughts of the Parent ego state, creating the primary feeling of guilt.  If the Parent is developed in a negative, coercive way, it cannot provide the protective nature that is expected.  The inner critic is the internal dialogue directing personality and personal behavior.  Although this inner critic can provide a valuable piece in the protection of the Child, negative over activity directs negatively…and what is expected is achieved, thoughts cause physical reaction, emotional change causes organic change, old thought is the most difficult to change, the greater the intellectual pressure to change, the less the subconscious response.  Can I use thoughts and emotions that drive behavior to change what I don’t like?  Yes, you can.

By reversing the formula of thoughts and emotions drive behavior, and going to those thoughts and emotions to find the source of that which you would like to change, label it, then use hypnosis to access the subconscious, delete the old thought that rules, and replace it with a upgraded edition.  If you have a thought that is incompatible with you best life, cancel it.  And watch it leave.  Amazing!  Quit smoking?  Ok, well, this started somewhere and won’t leave until the subconscious is convinced to give it up for another better thought.  This habit is almost totally found in the Prison of Pain and Sorrow; something happened in the development of the Parent ego state that  created a painful link…lack of self esteem, birth order difficulties, parental abuse, poverty, example, permission because someone else in the family smokes……. something did it, as it takes severe training to inhale burned smoke particles and say that you like it.  There was always another person there when the first cigarette was smoked.  What were the conditions; look to the C-P conflict, where is the guilt, the hurt, the pain and sorrow?  Then strike a bargain with the Adult ego state to assume the helm of the ship, be the architect of the life, the new driver.
